Reconciling animals and suffering

we know that christians generally go through ridiculous mental voodoo to explain why a benevolent god allows human suffering, and none of it makes any sense, or is filled with bunk logic.

that's what happens when you try and retrofit a jewish "god is good and evil" religion into a benevolent religion.. .

one of the biggest "trips" to a jw/christian in continuing this line of thought is asking them why god would create animals simply to suffer and die, then, after they try to blame everything on adam (whose brain god supposedly created, and who put him into the exact situation that had an influence on that brain to cause him to sin).

A very good post. To go further, where is the line in the creature kingdom that we humans should treat them "humanely"? I regularly kill and poison armadillos, mosquitos, roaches, and fire ants. When riding my bicycle, I will go that far when a dog invades my space. Inside my house, anything not invited is fair game. When I hit a deer while driving a few years ago I stopped and turned around. If I had found the ailing deer I was prepared to put it to sleep. Why? If I kill a squirrel or cat why don't I do the same?

I just checked out your tip. Yes, it appears you can get any meeting place in the world but, as far as I can see -- one at a time. They'd probably shut you off after a dozen or so.

How do individual JW's justify Jehovah's Old Testament orders to kill little children even babies (amalekites, canaanites)?

in 1. samuel 15:2-3 we read jehovah's order to kill "all" amalekites.

it says "you are to put them to death, man as well as woman, child as well as infant...".

in deuteronomy 2:32-34 the israelites say about sihon.

Help with some questions on "new light"

for a future conversation i will have with my mother i need some questions answered.

otherwise i will have to search and read through jw literature and i rather not :0. what was the teaching of 1919 during 1980's and 1990's (this is when i was active and my mother became a witness)?.

what is the current teaching of 1919?.

A free download, The Great Watchtower Contradiction, may be one of your choice sources since it cites some 25 watchtower references. The Watchtower Library CD is recommended. It's an 11 minute read if you skip the supportive endnote references. Watchtower teaches that they haven't contradicted (some people call them flip-flops) themselves in their teachings but this will blow your mind, in essence, proving them a liar on that score many times over.

Why Did the Governing Body Change Their Interpretation Of Matthew 24:45-47?

some have wondered if "captives of a concept" had anything to do with why the governing body changed their interpretation of the most important scripture in their theology at their annual meeting on october 6, 2012.. this is because the book places great emphasis on the societys interpretation of matthew 24:45-47 and then holds them to it while examining the organizations history to make sure that went on in its history fits their interpretation.

this comparison is essential to the societys claim to being gods organization.. their previous interpretation came from their former most imminent bible scholar president frederick franzs in his "gods kingdom of a thousand years has approached.

" their history comes from their "jehovahs witnesses proclaimers of gods kingdom.".

Here's what they say within that report about 1919:

The evidence points to the following conclusion: "The faithful and discreet slave" was appointed over Jesus’ domestics in 1919. That slave is the small, composite group of anointed brothers serving at world headquarters during Christ’s presence who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food. When this group work together as the Governing Body, they act as "the faithful and discreet slave."

From that, I don't see where they've changed anything. Am I missing something here?

In view of the quotation that BluesBrother subsequently provided ("In 1919, a time of spiritual revival, Jesus selected capable anointed brothers from among them to be the faithful and discreet slave and appointed them over his domestics.") from a Watchtower nearly a year later (WT 2013 7/15 p22/23) something in the kitchen doesn't smell right.

Can you please provide us with a Watchtower (publication) quotation that substantiates your annual meeting reference?

The dumest thing an elder ever said to me..

by new hope and happiness in

conversation with an elder...i said " did you watch due south yesterday" and he said " ive got far more important things to do".

i mean that comment of his got me to thinking and wondering, and made me see he was missing out on living..and i think that comment was the straw that broke this boys faith, and started my i dont want to be a witness anymore.

kind of wierd how a simple question opened my eyes.. and now as i write this i am watching " the rebel" a 1950s western series, and its great and its even better my 9 year old is watching with me..and there is nothing more important than being happy.. .

I just checked my electronic copy of CofC, searching the the string "happy". I, too, found no instances of "happy" that supports that statement.

Jehovah's Witnesses family struck by lightning in Germany

The first paragraph of that report proceeds, "On Thursday the 15th May a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses is reported to have been injured by lightning in a violent storm in their home in Limbach-Oberfrohna, near Dresden, Germany. The entire family of five sustained injuries while their nine-year-old boy remains in hospital with more serious injuries." ...

I find it strange that the report mentions the name of this family's religion. Why is that significant in this case?

Less than professional mainstream reporting, plus an apparent translation into English -- IMHO.
